Frédérique Michea, a member of the teaching staff for the Jean Monnet Module SOCRETUR project, was at Galatasaray University on October 30-31, 2024, with the support of also the Consortium.
Michéa, a professor at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Rennes and the director of the master’s program in European Union Law at the same university, gave a lecture on October 30.
The EU Duty of Care Directive and Turkey:
Within the scope of the International Law course at the Faculty of Law at Galatasaray University, Frédérique Michea gave a lecture titled "Directive (EU) 2024/1760 and the Duty of Vigilance of Companies: What are the Consequences in Europe and Turkey", where she examined the details of the corporate sustainability duty of care directive, which came into force on June 13, 2024.
The effects of this directive, which also directly affects Turkish companies in the supply chain of European companies, were discussed through concrete examples.
In the lecture, which was mainly attended by law students, topics such as the scope of the European duty of care regarding corporate responsibility in sustainability matters, the central role of stakeholders in duty of care, and control models were addressed interactively.
Social Rights in the EU and Turkey:
On October 31, 2024, within the scope of the Jean Monnet Module SOCRETUR project, Michea also taught the SOC 411 course which is titled as Social Rights and Social Inclusion in Turkey and Europe, opened at Galatasaray University. In this course, she discussed EU social law and its relationship with the European Pillar of Social Rights in this context. Students from various departments at Galatasaray University attended the course.
